The PECS 151 Picture Collection For Those with Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities Size: 1 ¾” x 1 ¾” The picture set includes some of the most commonly used pictures for PECS. The list of images was compiled over several years by tracking the picture vocabulary development of a significant number of new PECS users and includes a total of 151 pictures. Each PECS 151-Revised picture is generic and non-specific and is perfect for combining with attributes for precise requests or comments. The illustrations are in full-color, explicit, and versatile. Each set contains six Sentence Starter icons and twenty beginning attribute icons. The pictures come printed on rigid paper and are laminated, for added durability. Loop Velcoins© are included to apply to the back of the pictures, which allows them to be used with communication books, schedules, activity boards, and visual reinforcement systems – anywhere you use visual strategies! The Halifax PECS Basic training is just around the corner, so it is your last chance to register this week!

PECS Basic Training
This intensive two-day training is designed to teach participants the theory behind the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and the protocols for how to appropriately implement the six phases of PECS.
The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) is used to rapidly teach communication skills to those with limited functional speech. PECS promotes communication within a social context, without lengthy prerequisite training. Training in PECS begins by teaching a spontaneous request and goes on to teach additional communicative functions such as responding to questions and commenting. An added attraction for preschool children with autism and related disabilities is the high proportion of children who acquire independent speech. Participants will learn how to implement the six phases of PECS, plus attributes, through presenter demonstrations, video examples and role-play opportunities. Participants will leave the workshop with an understanding of how to implement PECS with individuals with autism, related developmental disabilities, and/or limited communication skills.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with effective communication skills and a passion for training and motivating others. Pyramid Educational Consultants of Canada is the provider of training and resources related to the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and the Pyramid Approach to Education. Pyramid is comprised of interdisciplinary professionals including psychologists, board certified behaviour analysts, speech language pathologists, and educational professionals. Pyramid Consultants provide training and consultation to parents and professionals in communities across Canada in early intervention programs, children’s mental health centres, schools, and residential and clinical settings. Consultants receive direct training from other Pyramid Consultants worldwide, including the creators of PECS Andrew Bondy, Ph.D. and Lori Frost, M.Sc., CCC/SLP. Types of consultations include PECS Start Ups, PECS Check Ups, and behavioural intervention to increase skills and minimize challenging behaviour. Day 2: This day explores incorporation of communication, advanced language and PECS implementation throughout the day. Both receptive and expressive communication skills are explored, with a focus on incorporating these skills into a variety of functional activities. Ideas for advanced language lessons for learners using any modality (i.e. voice output systems, sign language, speech, etc.) are discussed. The day ends with information specifically related to incorporating PECS opportunities throughout the day. Concepts are explored through a combination of videos, discussions and small group activities.
You Will Learn To:
- Analyze common difficulties with PECS implementation
- Generate solutions to difficult PECS implementation situations
- Analyze a day for, and learn to program to, incorporate communication opportunities into all activities
- Implement specific training strategies for teaching advanced language concepts

Early Registration Extended for HALIFAX workshops!
We have decided to extend our Early registration deadline and rates for the upcoming Halifax trainings February 16-18, 2010! We want to ensure everyone knows about these trainings and has a fair chance to register at our discounted rate. Since many people take the holidays to spend with their families, we have decided that it would be appropriate to extend the early registration deadline to January 16 for the Basic Training and January 18 for the Teaching Communication for Independence workshop.

Insert Pages are made of thick, durable polyvinyl and have been redesigned to include color-coded tabs for easy page turning.
